whilst attending our new search course in Dorchester, the team were paged and asked to provide IRT assistance to Weymouth Lifeboat’s ALB.

The ALB had been tasked prior to our tasking, to assist a casualty vessel near to Lulworth Cove. The single occupant of the vessel, whilst on passage from Falmouth, had become unwell and disorientated. The Pan Pan call had been initiated by the NMOC, as the casualty’s son had managed to contact the casualty, and through conversation realised they were in a precarious situation. When the rough position of the casualty had been established, the ALB launched to locate and bring the casualty to safety.

The casualty vessel was located near to Lulworth, and bought under tow to Weymouth Harbour, where the Duty IRT met and assisted them alongside. The casualty was then taken from the vessel to the SWAST ambulance to be checked over. With the casualty in good health, they were released to the care of a relative to rest-up and recuperate.
